Geometric Triangle: “Stately” Necklace

Stately necklace came about because I was playing with geometric shapes. Geometric Triangle Stately necklace (ch0360) As I was trying to say in Geometric Shapes: Tools for Beading, I am in the boring and exciting phase of trying to collect more basic how-tos.  I strongly believe that it will form a stronger foundation that will paradoxically give me more freedom to break the rules . So like a good girl I pretend to be, I have been practising and practising on the most boring basic shapes. Bead Bead Bead!  And it is always a pleasure and surprise that even while doing routine, rudimentary exercises, something springs out unexpectedly. I was learning and practising the Tri-Wing beaded formation when the beads decided to do a bit of a detour. s/n This photo shows Kate McKinnon s Tri Wing which utilises the MRAW (Modified Right Angle Weave) Bellyband. Kate teaches this in a video (see references section below).  You can also download a free (.pdf) copy of how to bead the tri-wing which

Beaded Warped Square Peyote Stitch – How To

To make a beaded warped square in Peyote Stitch is very easy.  Especially if you know how to make a flat beaded square. In fact, a warped square is easier than a flat square! Technically speaking, we are using a combination of Peyote Stitch and Herringbone Stitch. The logic is: Peyote stitch for the flat surfaces; Herringbone stitch for increases. In a basic beaded warped square, you just do the herringbone stitch at the corners and peyote stitch for the sides.  That s it! Here is a graphical step-by-step.  Credit for the image goes to Contemporary Geometric Beadwork (Kate McKinnon s site). You can find the full document (.pdf file), tutorials, and beading basics at CGB Volume 1, Basics Section.

Miyuki vs Toho seed beads

I have lived under the illusion that there is nothing better, nothing more regular than Miyuki in seed beads.  But now that I have been Toho-ized, Toho seedbeads get my big thumbs up as far as their round seed beads are concerned. Toho seed b...

Freeform Beaded Crochet Bracelet “Warm Dunes”

I thought I might as well give freeform beaded crochet bracelet a go as the itch to do it is strong and some bright colours were running through my head. Disturbing my sleep. So here is Warm Dunes . My first run at running willy-nilly with beads, and yarn, a sharp pointy hook and going blindly at a freeform crochet bracelet! Warm Dunes freeform beaded crochet bracelet (CH0358) The bracelet can be worn full length, or slightly scrunched on the wrist. I just love the silky vibrancy and feel of viscose yarn.  So I decided to use viscose yarn as a main component in this piece.   Viscose yarn has a magnificent drape. And it is cooling. This freeform beaded crochet bracelet is really freeform.  But obviously there is a bit of structure to the design and shape.  I started off by making a tubed beaded crochet tube.  Wanted to see if a beaded crochet tube could be incorporated into a bracelet as an integral part of it (viz. not sewn or attached on later).  And the experiment worked. Bea

Book Depository – Thumbs Up

I would like to give a big thumbs up to Book Depository.  I ordered a book from them just a week ago and it has already arrived.  With free postage (as are all the books from Book Depository).  All the way from UK.  That is what I call fast, speedy service. Plus their packaging is always sturdy.  And if you keep your eye(s) out, many a time, their books are cheaper than what you can get elsewhere.  And have I said free shipping? Yup, Book Depository, you get my thumbs up!

Wire Woven Necklace – Aquamarine Romance

I decided to play around with some wire weaving. With some very fine wire (0.25mm or 30gauge).  I thought I would go blind there for a while.  But still here.  And this art nouveauish wire woven necklace has been christened Aquamarine Romance . Aquamarine Romance wire woven necklace (CH0338) It is made of 2 separate pieces of wire weaving.  21-22ga brass wire is used as core for strength and contrast.  Square Sterling Silver filled wire, twisted, have been used to accentuate the curves.  Swarovski chaton in Air Blue Opal crystal used to join the 2 separate parts together, giving it mobility. Aquarmarine quartz in pointed back teardrop (faceted) shape finishes off the delicate, vintage and genteel ensemble. This is strung off a sterling silver rope chain.
