Removing Baked On Stains with Bicarbonate of Soda

I keep a lot of baked on stains in the kitchen, not out of love, but because my elbow grease is too precious.  However, with some Bicarb of Soda, it becomes so much easier to say bye-bye to baked on stains.

One brand of Bi-Carb Soda
Bi-carb of soda is easy to find (check grocery stores) and comes in various brands.  And they are inexpensive.

I am using one of our oven trays for illustration here.  The tray has been cleaned many many times but the baked on stains remain.  This has been going on for years.  The pic shows that I have just started applying the bicarb soda paste.

You can apply the bicarb-soda by first making a thick paste (bicarb soda + a little water), or as I have done here, by poring the bicarb-soda powder over the baked in stains, and then dribbling bits of water onto the powder and make a paste to cover said stains.

Once you have the stains covered, leave overnight.

As this is my first application, over stains that have not been shifted in years (like 5 years!), I don't expect a perfect result.

On the next day, apply a little bit of elbow grease (give the tray a wee scrub with a light scourer).  You will find that it takes much less effort and that most of the stains will come off easily.

Here is the result from one application of bi-carb soda over the years old baked in stains:

It all depends on how much and how long the baked in stains have been.  The more and/or longer the stains may require more than one application of Bi-carb Soda for a perfect clean.

You can use Bi-Carbonate of Soda to removed baked in / burnts stains and other long-standing stains on:

  • baking trays
  • steel pots and pans
  • enamel ware
  • chinaware and ceramics
  • glass

Bi-Carb Soda also removes smells.  So having a small bowl of Bi-Carb Soda powder in your fridge will help to keep it smelling fresh.

Enjoy removing your baked in stains and stuff with the wonderful Bi-Carbonate of Soda.
